Robot Head

Actor N/A

The Robot Girl is an antagonist featured in SOMA.

Description

The Robot Girl, as its name suggests, takes the form of a woman's corpse fused with implants formed from Structure Gel, including mechanical eyes and a claw. She appears to be capable of distorted speech when alerted, and cries constantly whilst idle.

This enemy resembles a motionless, crying girl with wires and bars prodded throughout her body. She appears to be movement-based, and only chases the player if they walk too fast. If the player fails to sneak past, she emits a loud screeching noise and proceeds to seek out the player. If she then spots the player, she charges at full speed.

Behavior

This particular adversary remains passive unless provoked, and is alerted by nearby movement. When alerted, she glows, growls, and snaps her claw opened and closed. If Simon remains still, she calms down within a few seconds and once again holds her arms in front of her face. By repeating this process and moving slowly and carefully, it is possible to take the battery pack without provoking her.

When provoked, the Robot Girl screeches and actively seeks Simon out, breaking into a sprint when she finds him.

Appearances

Having found the last remaining power suit in Omicron, Simon Jarrett is required to collect a vat of structure gel, a Cortex Chip and a battery pack in order to operate it; an extra battery pack is kept within the upper levels of Omicron, inside the Power Room. Navigating the room, Simon finds two battery pack containers, one of which is empty, while the other contains a single pack but is found next to the Robot Girl. Depending on the player's method of acquiring the pack, Simon will be able to collect it and leave the room alive, injured or otherwise.

After Simon collects each of the required materials, the Robot Girl is later encountered briefly in the Medical Ward as Simon makes his way back to the Dive Room. He hurriedly dashes into the room with the Robot Girl in hot pursuit, and frantically calls for Catherine Chun to shut the door behind him. The door is sealed, leaving the Robot Girl banging on the door from the outside.

Trivia

  • Within the game's files, the Robot Girl is also known as "robot head".
  • Her behavior is similar to the Witch from the Left 4 Dead series, in that she becomes agitated by any disturbances made by the player, and begins to aggressively seek the player out when provoked.
