Talk: Leviathan

Is this actually a giant squid? It doesnt even look close to it to me..

• I thought the same thing. But if the logs and other info are correct the species is actually some kind of squid. Specifically known as a giant squid scientifically? I dunno.
• Update: It is technically a European Squid.... and it looks pretty giant to me.

Not a squid.

According to a terminal in the abyss, the WAU did indeed modify a squid. But this doesn't imply that the Leviathan is a squid. In fact, I'm almost certain it's not a squid, for the following reasons:

1. It's big. As the wiki page currently notes, Loligo vulgaris doesn't even come close to that size.

2. It doesn't look remotely squid-like, or even biological. Every other WAU-modified organism (Flesher, Proxy, Akers, Robot Girl, Viperfish, Anglerfish, and Yoshida) looks like a jumbled mess; for example, the Viperfish and Anglerfish have human faces sticking out of them. The Leviathan, on the other hand, is relatively sleek and graceful.

3. The game files classify the Leviathan as a robot.

4. The Leviathan's concept art mentions that it's made from the same material as the robot spider (the thing that appears in the teaser).

5. The game files only use the name "Leviathan" (never "Squid"). In contrast, the other abyssal enemies are explicitly named "Viperfish" and "Anglerfish".

It would be better if we had some fort of biological signs that it isn't a squid rather than just basing it on the fact that it doesn't look like a squid. Does Terry Akers' mutated form look like Terry Akers? --A Tiny Horse (talk) 18:12, November 2, 2015 (UTC)

Bro, i'm just asking if someone can appoint in which part of the gameplay this evidence is found because, as it was said up there, "It doesn't look remotely squid-like". Actually, by my understanding, calling it a squid without any evidence is "appealing to ignorance". Otherwise, we coud call it a dragon, since there's no evidence indicating it's not a dragon. That's a good point. References to it being a squid may be removed from the article.

So far the only reference I've seen is "WAU Shark" and "Abyss Worm", but I'm not sure if those are fan terms or file names.

Ok, i was looking for more information on the Leviathan, and yes, it's more probably a very ugly squid, sorry for doubting.  "clearly another specimen affected by the leaking structure gel" and "partialy covered in scales and newly formed bone structure protruding through the mantle". However, i'm not sure abut this trivia here "Interestingly enough, the species is identified as loligo vulgaris.In real life, the l. vulgaris can grow to a maximum of 40 cm, but it is assumed that the effects of the mutation enhanced its size". In the picture above it's written "giant squid". I also would like to know the source of this information (loligo vulgaris). Anyone? (Pimposo (talk))

The scientific name "Loligo vulgaris" appears on one of the terminal's population graphs.

But in any case, how do we know that these log entries are talking about the Leviathan? As I said before, the game files strongly suggest that the Leviathan isn't a squid.   Bandit1178 (talk) 12:17, November 3, 2015 (UTC)

To me, this description matches perfectly with the Leviathan. I vote for Squid. Squid for president!

Youtube uploader says she found this image above in gamefiles. Tentacles also support the squid theory.
